Coconut chutney is a straightforward, easy and quick recipe. It is a side dish mainly prepared for breakfast with idli, Rava dosa, dosa, amboli, vada.

The best part is that it is a fresh chutney and you enjoy it only when you consume it fresh.

You can make so many variations in that chutney like adding lemon juice, tamarind, mint leaves, coriander leaves.

  1. 2 cup of freshly grated coconut
  2. 4 nos. garlic cloves
  3. ½ piece of ginger
  4. 2  nos. green chilli
  5. 2 tbsp  roasted chickpeas (chana dal)
  6. Salt to taste
  7. ¾ cup of water
  1. 2 tbsp oil
  2. ½ tbsp mustard seeds
  3. ½ tbsp cumin seeds
  4. 6-7 curry leaves
  5. 2 nos. dried red chilli



  1. In a mixing, jar take freshly grated coconut, green chilli, ginger, garlic, salt, roasted chana dal.
  2. Add water as per your requirements.
  3. Blend to smooth paste.
  4. You can add more water to adjust the consistency.
  5. Take out the chutney into a bowl.


  1. Heat up oil in tadka pan
  2. After heating oil adds mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, dried red chilies.
  3. Cover it and let it cool down.
  4. After cooling, tadka add it to the chutney and mix well.
  5. Coconut chutney is ready to serve.
  6. You can serve this with Rava idli, dosa, amboli too.


  1. Also add tamarind/ imli, roasted peanuts for restaurant-style coconut chutney recipe.
  2. You can also add coriander leaves for green colour chutney.
  3. You can use only fresh coconut for more juicy and flavored chutney.
  4. You can also add in tadka urad dal for a different flavor.
